MFN Website Redevelopment

A scalable & high-performance platform

Project Overview

  • Project Name: Mastercard Foundation Website Redevelopment
  • Objective: Transform a legacy website into a scalable, high-performance platform that meets global accessibility (WCAG, AODA) and privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy).
  • Role: Lead Web Technical Advisor, acted as the strategic technical consultant between the Foundation and the vendor, ensuring modern web practices, robust performance, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Technologies & Tools:
    • Front-End: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript frameworks
    • Back-End: Headless CMS, API integrations
    • Development Tools: Jira, Figma, Confluence, Notion, Miro
    • Accessibility Auditing: Siteimprove (integrated into CI/CD workflows)
    • Compliance: OneTrust

Challenge

  • Legacy System Limitations: The existing website struggled to support evolving digital needs of the organization, hindering global engagement, content delivery and scalability.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Pressures: Required full adherence to accessibility standards (WCAG, AODA) and privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy), along with other mandates.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Required close alignment between the Foundation, vendor, and internal teams (cybersecurity, legal) to meet technical and regulatory objectives.

Approach & Implementation

  • Audit & Stakeholder Alignment: Conducted comprehensive audits to identify performance bottlenecks, accessibility gaps, and regulatory issues. Facilitated strategic discussions with IT, legal, cybersecurity, and vendor teams to establish clear milestones and compliance goals.
  • Modern Web Practices:
    • User-Centered Design: Developed responsive layouts using semantic HTML, ARIA roles, and progressive enhancement to ensure inclusivity.
    • Performance Optimization: Implemented code minification, lazy loading of images, and utilized Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) for faster load times.
    • Security & Privacy: Adopted secure coding practices and integrated privacy-by-design principles with in-house cybersecurity experts.
    • Agile/CI/CD Integration: Employed continuous integration and deployment pipelines to enable rapid iterations and consistent testing.
  • Accessibility Auditing with Siteimprove: Integrated Siteimprove into the development workflow to automate and schedule accessibility audits, ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.

Results

  • Delivered a modern, responsive website that enhanced the Foundation’s global digital engagement.
  • Achieved measurable improvements, including a 40% reduction in load times and a 25% increase in user engagement within the first three months.
